Keratin-associated protein 20-1 (KRTAP20-1) is a member of the high glycine-tyrosine keratin-associated protein (HGT-KAP) family, important for hair and wool fiber structure. It forms part of the matrix surrounding keratin intermediate filaments, modulating physical properties such as fiber diameter and curvature. Genetic variants in KRTAP20-1 have been linked to alterations in wool quality and yield in sheep, but equivalent roles in human hair biology are less characterized. KRTAP20-1 is not considered a classical therapeutic target, as it lacks known receptor, enzyme, or signaling function.
