Overview

Keratin-associated protein 3-2 (KRTAP3-2) is a high sulfur member of the keratin-associated protein family, which forms the interfilamentous matrix of keratin intermediate filaments in hair fibers[1][4][5]. These proteins, often enriched in cysteine residues, contribute to the formation of a rigid and resilient hair shaft by creating extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins[1]. KRTAP3-2 is expressed in the hair cortex and is implicated in the physical properties of hair, but it is not a traditional drug target and does not have known pharmacological modulators. Associations with diseases such as Usher syndrome type IIIa and indeterminate leprosy are described, though its role in these conditions is not as a direct causative or actionable therapeutic target[1].
