Keratin-associated protein 4-1 (KRTAP4-1)

Target
KRTAP4-1
Molecular classification
Other, Keratin-associated protein family, Ultrahigh sulfur keratin-associated protein
01

Overview

Keratin-associated protein 4-1 is a member of the keratin-associated protein family, specifically the ultrahigh sulfur subfamily. These proteins interact with keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex, providing structural rigidity and resistance to the hair shaft through extensive disulfide cross-linking with hair keratins due to their abundant cysteine content. KRTAP4-1 is mainly involved in hair fiber structure and is not recognized as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Its gene is clustered on chromosome 17q12-q21 among other keratin-associated protein genes.
