Overview

Keratin-associated protein 4-11 (KRTAP4-11) is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, specifically belonging to the ultrahigh sulfur KAP subfamily[4][5][3]. KAP proteins contribute to the structure of hair fibers by forming a matrix with keratin intermediate filaments, aiding in the formation of a rigid and resistant hair shaft through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking[3]. KRTAP4-11 is localized to a cluster of KAP genes on chromosome 17q12-q21 and is characterized by a high content of sulfur-containing amino acids, which facilitate these structural interactions[3][4][5]. While essential for hair shaft formation, KRTAP4-11 is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no current drug interactions or known direct disease associations[3][4][5].
