Overview
Keratin-associated protein 4-12 (KRTAP4-12) is a structural protein belonging to the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, specifically the ultrahigh sulfur KAP subgroup. These proteins form a matrix surrounding keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex, contributing to the strength and resilience of hair by extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins. KRTAP4-12 is primarily expressed in hair follicles and plays a key role in hair fiber structure, but it is not currently known to function as a receptor, enzyme, or recognized drug target[1][2][3][4][6][7][8].
