Keratin-associated protein 5-7 (KRTAP5-7)

Target
KRTAP5-7
Molecular classification
Structural protein, Keratin-associated protein family
01

Overview

Keratin-associated protein 5-7 is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KRTAP) family, which are structural proteins primarily located in the hair cortex. These proteins form an interfilamentous matrix that embeds hair keratin intermediate filaments, and are crucial for hair fiber formation and strength. KRTAP5-7 contains a high sulfur content, contributing to the stability and mechanical properties of hair by forming disulfide bonds with keratin filaments. There is no evidence that KRTAP5-7 acts as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or is directly implicated in human disease. Its main biological role is in keratinization and normal hair fiber development[3][6].
