Keratin-associated protein 5-9 (KRTAP5-9)

Target
KRTAP5-9
Molecular classification
Other (keratin-associated protein; matrix protein)
01

Overview

Keratin-associated protein 5-9 is a matrix protein found in the cortex of hair fibers, where it embeds the keratin intermediate filaments and helps confer strength and rigidity to the hair shaft. It achieves this through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking due to abundant cysteine residues. KRTAP5-9 is classified among the high-sulfur keratin-associated proteins, a family essential for hair formation and mechanical properties. It is not associated with therapeutic targeting, disease diagnostics, or drug interactions[3][5][11].
