Overview

Keratin-associated protein 6-3 (KRTAP6-3) is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, specifically the KRTAP6 subfamily. This protein is predominantly expressed in hair follicles, especially in the inner and outer root sheaths and the dermal papilla[2]. KRTAP6-3, along with other KRTAP6 members, plays an important structural role in the development, composition, and maintenance of hair fibers, contributing to physical and mechanical properties such as fiber diameter and strength, particularly in wool-producing animals[2]. Although there are family differences in expression patterns between humans and other species (e.g., sheep), the main biological function of KRTAP6-3 is to regulate the characteristics of hair and wool fibers. There is no evidence that KRTAP6-3 is a therapeutic target, is involved in signal transduction, or is directly implicated in major human diseases[2].
