Overview

Keratin-associated protein 7-1 (KRTAP7-1) is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, which is integral to the structure of hair fibers in mammals[3][6][7]. In the hair cortex, intermediate filaments made of hair keratins are embedded within a matrix of keratin-associated proteins, including KRTAP7-1, which contribute to the rigidity and resistance of hair shafts via extensive disulfide bond formation with cysteine residues in hair keratins[5][6]. It is classified as a high glycine-tyrosine protein and is essential for normal hair formation and mechanical properties but is not considered a conventional target for therapeutic intervention or known to interact with drugs[3][5][6][7]. There are no established roles for KRTAP7-1 as a disease biomarker or safety concerns regarding its manipulation in therapeutic contexts.
