Overview

Keratin-associated protein 9-2 (KRTAP9-2) is a member of the keratin-associated protein family, classified under the ultrahigh sulfur group due to its high cysteine content. KRTAP9-2 forms part of the matrix that embeds keratin intermediate filaments, contributing to the structure and mechanical strength of hair and, to a lesser extent, nails. These proteins are extensively cross-linked to keratins via disulfide bonds, which are critical for the rigidity and resilience of hair fibers. There is no evidence that KRTAP9-2 serves as a therapeutic drug target, nor are there known drugs or direct disease associations for this specific protein[2][4].
