Overview

Keratin-associated protein 9-3 (KRTAP9-3) is a structural protein in the human hair fiber matrix, belonging to the ultrahigh sulfur keratin-associated protein family. KAPs, including KRTAP9-3, form a matrix that crosslinks with keratin intermediate filaments via disulfide bonds, contributing to the physical properties and structure of hair fibers. Members of this protein family have unique amino- and carboxyl-terminal regions and are classified based on their amino acid composition as high sulfur, ultrahigh sulfur, or high tyrosine/glycine types. The gene for KRTAP9-3 is located in a KAP gene cluster on chromosome 17q12–q21. No therapeutic or receptor function is associated, and there are no known drug interactions, biomarker usage, or disease implications for this protein[2][3].
