Overview

Keratin-associated protein 9-7 (KRTAP9-7) is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KRTAP) gene family, which encodes structural proteins important for the formation and rigidity of mammalian hair and nails[1][4][5]. KRTAPs are localized in the matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments and are involved in stabilizing and cross-linking these filaments via disulfide bonds[4][1]. These proteins are not considered traditional drug targets like receptors, enzymes, or ion channels, and currently have no known disease associations or pharmacological agents directly targeting them[1][5]. KRTAP9-7 expression is largely restricted to hair-producing tissues, where it impacts the physical properties of hair fibers[4][5].
