Overview

Keratinocyte associated protein 3 is a protein encoded by the *KRTCAP3* gene, located on human chromosome 2. It is predicted to be a membrane-associated protein highly expressed in tissues such as the gastrointestinal tract and has cytoplasmic distribution[8]. In rodents, *Krtcap3* expression influences body weight, adiposity, food intake, and metabolic traits. Higher liver expression appears protective against obesity, and *Krtcap3*-deficient animals show sex- and genotype-specific metabolic effects[9]. In humans, genetic variation in *KRTCAP3* is associated with phenotypes including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia[9]. Its precise biochemical function is not fully characterized, and it is not considered a therapeutic drug target at present[7][9].
