Keratinocyte proline-rich protein (KPRP) is a skin-specific, proline-rich structural protein expressed in the epidermis, particularly in the granular layers of the skin and periderm of fetal skin. It is implicated in keratinocyte differentiation and is thought to support epidermal barrier formation and function. Decreased expression is observed in atopic dermatitis lesions compared to normal skin, suggesting a possible role in skin disease. KPRP has been associated genetically with certain cancers, but its function in oncogenesis remains to be determined. There is currently no evidence supporting its role as a receptor, enzyme, or classic pharmacological target, and no approved drugs interact with this protein.
