Ketohexokinase isoform C (KHK-C)

Target
KHK-C
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Kinase
01

Overview

Ketohexokinase isoform C (KHK-C) is the major isoform of ketohexokinase (fructokinase) responsible for hepatic fructose metabolism. It catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose to fructose 1-phosphate, the first committed step in fructolysis. KHK-C is highly expressed in the liver and kidney, and its activity bypasses key regulatory steps in glycolysis, potentially contributing to increased lipogenesis and metabolic disorders. As such, KHK-C is considered a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and related conditions.
