Pseudogenes are duplicated or mutated versions of protein-coding genes that generally have lost the ability to encode functional proteins due to disruptive errors in their sequence or regulatory elements. Some pseudogenes are transcribed into RNA and may participate in regulatory networks (for example, as competing endogenous RNAs or microRNA sponges), but there is no literature supporting such a role for KIAA1191P1 specifically.
