KIAA1328 pseudogene 1 (KIAA1328P1) is a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but non-functional; they typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate disabling mutations such as frameshifts or stop codons. Most pseudogenes, including KIAA1328P1, are not translated into functional proteins and are generally considered molecular fossils. However, a minority of pseudogenes can be transcribed and may occasionally play regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as influencing expression of related genes; there is currently no direct evidence for such a role for KIAA1328P1. KIAA1328P1 should not be confused with the protein-coding gene KIAA1328 (also called "hinderin"), which is involved in protein-protein interactions (notably with SMC3 and SMC1) and may have limited relevance to chromosomal complex assembly. In summary, KIAA1328P1 is a pseudogene without documented biological, therapeutic, or diagnostic relevance and is not considered a classical drug target or receptor.
