Overview

KIAA1549-like protein (KIAA1549L) is a human protein encoded by the KIAA1549L gene (also known as C11orf41 or C11orf69), located on chromosome 11p13[2]. It is comprised of 1849 amino acids and contains highly conserved regions, but its exact cellular function has not been established[1][2]. The only known feature by motif prediction is a potential transmembrane domain; however, its physiological relevance remains unclear[1]. KIAA1549L is preferentially expressed in the human cerebral cortex and localizes to both the nucleus and cytoplasmic vesicles[1]. Notably, KIAA1549L has been identified as a fusion partner in rare cases of leukemia, such as pediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) in which it forms an oncogenic fusion with PAX5, and a reported fusion with RUNX1 in acute myeloid leukemia[1]. The fusion events suggest a possible but uncharacterized contribution to cancer, while the normal biological function, potential as a drug target, and clinical implications of KIAA1549L remain undetermined[1][2].
