KIAA1614 antisense RNA 1 (KIAA1614-AS1) is a primate-specific long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the KIAA1614 protein-coding gene on chromosome 1q25.3. As an antisense lncRNA, its primary molecular function is expected to be the regulation of gene expression—typically by base pairing with the mRNA of the sense gene, thus modulating mRNA stability, translation, or epigenetic status. There is currently no direct evidence that KIAA1614-AS1 is a validated therapeutic target or biomarker, nor are there any approved drugs acting on it. It is best classified as a regulatory RNA molecule with as-yet-undefined roles in cell biology and disease, possibly acting through modulation of its sense counterpart, KIAA1614, although functional and disease associations are lacking in the literature and curated databases as of the current date.
