KIF25 antisense RNA 1 (KIF25-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the antisense DNA strand of the KIF25 gene. As an antisense RNA, it does not encode a protein; instead, it most likely functions by regulating gene expression locally (cis effects) or potentially at distant loci (trans effects), through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, modulation of chromatin structure, or direct interaction with regulatory proteins. While other antisense lncRNAs play prominent roles in disease, especially cancer, current research does not identify KIF25-AS1 as a confirmed disease-associated molecule or a validated therapeutic target[4][2]. Generally, antisense RNAs like KIF25-AS1 are important for fine-tuning gene expression and may play roles in chromatin organization or transcriptional regulation[2], but the precise physiological and pathological functions of KIF25-AS1 remain to be elucidated.
