Killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL1 (KIR2DL1)

Target
KIR2DL1
Molecular classification
Transmembrane glycoprotein, Receptor, Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor family
01

Overview

Killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL1 (KIR2DL1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and some T cell subsets. It functions as an inhibitory receptor, binding to HLA-C group C2 allotypes (Cw4/Cw6/C*02) to prevent NK cell activation and lysis of target cells. KIR2DL1 plays a role in self-tolerance, infection control, autoimmunity avoidance, pregnancy tolerance, transplantation outcomes, and cancer surveillance. Genetic variation in KIR2DL1 and its ligands influences individual immune responses.
