Killer-cell Immunoglobulin-like Receptor 2DL2 (KIR2DL2)

Target
KIR2DL2
Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane glycoprotein, Immunoglobulin-like receptor
01

Overview

KIR2DL2 is an inhibitory receptor expressed on NK cells and some T cells that recognizes HLA-C allotypes, primarily HLA-C group 1 (C1) alleles. Upon binding its ligand, KIR2DL2 inhibits NK cell cytotoxic activity, preventing the lysis of healthy host cells. Genetic variations in KIR2DL2 and its ligands are associated with susceptibility to infectious diseases and autoimmune disorders. Its function in modulating adaptive immunity makes it a complex target with potential for both protective and detrimental effects in chronic infections.
