Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor pseudogenes are non-functional variants within the KIR gene family, which is located in the leukocyte receptor complex on chromosome 19q13.4. Unlike functional KIR genes that code for receptors on natural killer (NK) cells and play key roles in detecting and regulating immune response to infection, malignancy, and transplantation, KIR pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins due to truncations, mutations, or loss of transcription[2][3][5][6]. The most well-characterized KIR pseudogenes include KIR2DP1 and KIR3DP1[2][3][6].
