Killer immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL3 (KIR2DL3)

Target
KIR2DL3
Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane glycoprotein
01

Overview

Killer immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL3 (KIR2DL3) is an inhibitory receptor expressed on NK cells and some T cells. It binds to HLA-C allotypes (Cw1, Cw3, Cw7) and transmits inhibitory signals to prevent NK cell activation and lysis of target cells. It plays a role in immune regulation and self-tolerance. Dysregulation can contribute to pathological conditions such as cancer or impaired immune responses. Clinical studies have shown associations between certain KIR/HLA combinations—including those involving KIR2DL3—and outcomes in infectious diseases like hepatitis C virus infection clearance.
