Overview

The kinase insert domain-containing receptor (KDR), also known as vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates the effects of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on endothelial cells. It plays a critical role in angiogenesis and vasculogenesis by promoting endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and survival. Its activation by VEGF-A leads to receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation, activating downstream signaling pathways. Dysregulation of KDR is implicated in cancer and diabetic vasculopathy, making it a validated therapeutic target. Blockade of KDR function is a strategy employed against cancers dependent on neovascularization.
