Overview

Kinesin family member 19B, pseudogene (KIF19BP) is a DNA segment in the human genome that closely resembles a functional kinesin gene, but due to accumulated mutations, it does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like KIF19BP are evolutionarily derived from protein-coding genes, often through gene duplication or retrotransposition events, but have lost the ability to produce functional protein products. While most pseudogenes are biologically inactive, a small subset can have regulatory functions, such as acting as decoys for RNA molecules. However, there is no evidence that KIF19BP plays such a role. Pseudogenes can complicate genetic studies due to their sequence similarity to coding genes, sometimes confounding genetic diagnostics and PCR analyses[1][3][5]. Key points: - KIF19BP is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise considered a druggable or therapeutic target[3][5]. - As a *pseudogene*, it should not be confused with the functional *kinesin family member 19* (KIF19), a motor protein with established cellular roles. - The information for standard drug discovery/therapeutic target fields is not applicable.
