KIF2C, also known as MCAK, is a kinesin-13 family member essential for regulating microtubule dynamics and chromosome segregation during cell division. It functions as a microtubule depolymerase at kinetochores, playing a crucial role in proper anaphase chromosome segregation. Overexpression of KIF2C is observed in many cancers, promoting tumor progression and metastasis. Due to its role in maintaining chromosomal stability and its overexpression in tumors, KIF2C is considered a potential therapeutic target.
