Overview

Kinesin-like protein KIF27 is a molecular motor protein belonging to the kinesin-4 family, and serves as a mammalian ortholog of Drosophila Costal-2 (Cos2)[4][5]. It is essential for the formation and regulation of motile cilia by promoting the biogenesis and stability of the central apparatus and ciliary transition zone[1]. KIF27 is distinct from its homolog KIF7, as KIF27 specifically regulates motile cilium formation and is not directly involved in Hedgehog signaling. Mutations in KIF27 can impair ciliary structure and function, contributing to disorders such as motile ciliopathies, including primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD)[1][2].
