Kinetoplastid Proteasome

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protease, Multisubunit enzyme complex
01

Overview

The kinetoplastid proteasome is a large, multisubunit enzyme complex found in kinetoplastid parasites, such as *Trypanosoma cruzi*, *Leishmania* spp., and *Trypanosoma brucei*. It plays a central role in protein degradation and turnover, essential processes for cell-cycle progression, apoptosis regulation, and overall parasite viability. Selective inhibitors have been developed that exploit structural differences between parasite and human proteasomes, making it a validated therapeutic target. Examples of such inhibitors include GNF6702 and LXE408.
