Overview

KIT is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase that acts as a cell-surface receptor for stem cell factor (SCF). Upon SCF binding, it dimerizes and activates its intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity, regulating key cellular processes such as cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and migration. Mutated forms are implicated in various cancers, particularly GIST, making it a therapeutic target for tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
