Overview

KMT5A pseudogene 1 (KMT5AP1), also known as SET07p, SET7, or SETD8P1, is a pseudogene identified in the human genome. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional; they do not encode functional proteins or enzymes and do not participate in cellular signaling, metabolic, or regulatory pathways. KMT5AP1 is related by sequence similarity to the functional KMT5A gene (also called SETD8 or SET8), which encodes a histone methyltransferase, but KMT5AP1 itself does not produce a functional protein. As such, it is not considered a drug target or associated with any specific disease role, function, or mechanism of action. There is no evidence that KMT5AP1 (the pseudogene) is involved in pathophysiology or is a target for drug development, in contrast to its functional counterpart, KMT5A, which is a histone methyltransferase involved in epigenetic regulation, cancer, and cell cycle control. Any references to drug targeting, biological pathways, or disease associations pertain to the protein-coding KMT5A gene, not to the KMT5AP1 pseudogene. This entity is non-coding and not therapeutically relevant.
