KMT5AP3 is a pseudogene of KMT5A (lysine methyltransferase 5A), which means it is a DNA sequence similar to a known gene but generally nonfunctional, lacking the ability to encode a functional protein. There is no evidence that KMT5AP3 produces a protein or acts as a therapeutic target. KMT5A (the functional gene) encodes a histone methyltransferase that regulates chromatin dynamics and cell proliferation, but KMT5AP3 itself does not contribute to these functions. Pseudogenes are sometimes involved in gene regulation at the RNA level but, in the case of KMT5AP3, no specific biological function, role in disease, or importance as a biomarker or drug target has been described[7].
