Overview

KRAB-A domain-containing protein 2 (KRBA2) is a human protein that includes the KRAB domain, a strong transcriptional repression module usually found at the N-terminal region of certain transcription factors[2][1][3][6]. The KRAB domain functions by recruiting corepressor proteins, especially KAP1 (TRIM28), resulting in formation of heterochromatin and gene silencing[1][3][5]. Proteins in this family typically possess multiple C2H2 zinc finger motifs that allow sequence-specific DNA binding[1][2][5]. While the biological role of KRBA2 itself has not been established experimentally, the broader KRAB zinc finger protein family is associated with regulation of transcription during development, cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis[1][5]. KRAB proteins are vertebrate-specific and represent the largest class of transcriptional regulators in mammals[5][6]. KRBA2 has not been linked to known disease roles or clinical drug interactions, and is not regarded as a therapeutic target at this time[2].
