Krueppel-like factor 3 (KLF3), also known as Basic Krueppel-like factor (BKLF), is a member of the Krueppel-like family of zinc finger transcription factors characterized by three C2H2 zinc-finger motifs at the C-terminus, which allow DNA binding to CACCC or CGCCC boxes. KLF3 functions predominantly as a transcriptional repressor by recruiting C-terminal Binding Protein (CTBP) co-repressors and associated chromatin-modifying enzymes. KLF3 is highly expressed in erythroid cells, where it plays a role in red blood cell maturation, and also contributes to adipose tissue regulation and B-lymphocyte differentiation. Loss of KLF3 function in mice leads to mild anemia, altered adiposity, and immune system effects[1][2][4]. Currently, KLF3 is not considered a direct therapeutic target, and there are no known drug interactions with this factor.
