Kruppel like factor 17 pseudogene 1 (KLF17P1) is a genomic pseudogene related to the protein-coding gene Kruppel-like factor 17 (KLF17). Unlike KLF17, which encodes a zinc finger transcription factor involved in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, migration, and is implicated as a tumor suppressor in cancer progression, the KLF17P1 pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic or biological target[1][2]. Consequently, it is important to distinguish between KLF17 (a biologically active transcription factor with validated roles in cancer) and KLF17P1, which does not have known functional, disease, or therapeutic relevance. Important Note: If the intent is to reference the therapeutic target, information should instead be collected for the protein-coding gene Kruppel-like factor 17 (KLF17), not KLF17P1. Current literature and databases do not recognize KLF17P1 as an active gene product or as a molecular target[1][2].
