Kruppel-like factor 18 (KLF18)

Kruppel-like factor 18 (KLF18) was described as a novel member of the KLF (Krüppel-like factor) family, which are evolutionarily conserved transcription factors with zinc finger domains involved in DNA binding and transcriptional regulation[2][3]. However, KLF18 is now considered to be a putative pseudogene arising from a localized duplication of the KLF17 gene in placental mammals[2][3]. There is currently no experimental evidence for KLF18 gene expression—no known transcript or protein product has been confirmed, and it is not considered a functional transcription factor or therapeutic target[2][3]. For these reasons, KLF18 is not recognized as an active or druggable biological target, nor does it have ascribed biological functions, disease associations, or known molecular interactions in humans[2][3][4].
