Overview

KTN1 antisense RNA 1 (KTN1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 14q22.3. It is frequently upregulated in multiple human tumors and is functionally implicated in promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). KTN1-AS1’s tumorigenic mechanisms include acting as a molecular sponge for miRNAs (notably miR-23b and miR-505), modulating cancer signaling pathways such as the DEPDC1 axis, engaging in epigenetic regulation via recruitment of histone acetyltransferases like EP300, and forming chromatin-modifying complexes. KTN1-AS1 expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes and is under transcriptional control of oncogenic factors such as SOX2 and STAT1. KTN1-AS1 is explored as a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in cancer, though no approved drugs specifically act on it to date
