Overview

Cancer/testis antigen 2 (CTAG2, also known as LAGE-1) is a member of the cancer-testis antigen family, which are proteins typically not expressed in normal adult tissues except for the testis, but are aberrantly re-expressed in a wide spectrum of cancers[10][6][4]. CTAG2 plays a role in promoting the directional migration and invasion of cancer cells by regulating interactions at the centrosome and remodeling microtubule dynamics, processes important for metastatic progression[1][2]. It is highly immunogenic and can be recognized by cytotoxic T lymphocytes, making it a promising target for immunotherapy in cancers with high CTAG2 expression[4][6]. High levels of CTAG2 expression correlate with tumor progression and poorer prognosis in several cancers, making it useful both as a tumor marker and a potential therapeutic target[4][8]. There is no evidence of enzymatic, transporter, channel, or receptor activity; its main significance is as a tumor-restricted intracellular antigen[10][9].
