L-lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)

Target
LDH
Molecular classification
Enzyme
01

Overview

L-lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of pyruvate and lactate, with concomitant interconversion of NADH and NAD+. It plays a crucial role in anaerobic glycolysis and is found in various tissues. Elevated serum LDH levels are indicative of tissue damage or disease states, including myocardial infarction, hemolytic anemia, cancers, and inflammatory diseases. LDHA, a subunit of LDH, is a therapeutic target in cancer due to its role in the Warburg effect.
