Target intelligence / Profile preview

L-type Calcium Channel Cav1.2 (Cav1.2)

Target
Cav1.2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The L-type calcium channel, specifically the Cav1.2 subtype, is a voltage-gated ion channel that mediates the influx of Ca\(^{2+}\) ions into cells upon membrane depolarization. It plays a central role in excitation-contraction coupling in cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle tissues and is also involved in aldosterone secretion in endocrine cells. In the heart, Cav1.2 is the predominant L-type calcium channel expressed in ventricular myocytes.
