Overview

Lactate dehydrogenase A pseudogene 5 is a human pseudogene related to lactate dehydrogenase A. Unlike the functional LDHA enzyme gene, LDHAP5 does not encode an active protein but may have regulatory functions at the RNA level. Recent bioinformatics studies associate its high expression with poor overall survival in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma, apparently via its modulation of the EGFR/PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. LDHAP5 is regarded as a candidate for therapeutic and prognostic intervention in ovarian cancer, but its exact molecular mechanisms and potential as a direct therapeutic target await further experimental validation. Key findings: LDHAP5 is not a classical drug target like an enzyme or receptor, but its RNA-level effects may regulate disease-relevant signaling pathways, especially in cancer. Experimental evidence is currently limited to bioinformatic and correlative studies, with no direct drug interaction or mechanistic data available yet.
