Target intelligence / Profile preview
Lactate dehydrogenase B pseudogene 1 is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome, with high sequence similarity to the protein-coding lactate dehydrogenase B (LDHB) gene. However, it contains mutations and deletions (such as frameshifts and premature stop codons) that prevent it from producing a functional enzyme. Like other processed pseudogenes, LDHBP1 lacks the regulatory elements necessary for transcription and translation into protein, and thus has no known enzymatic activity or physiological function. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as remnants of once-functional genes that have lost their protein-coding potential through evolutionary processes. LDHBP1 is not implicated as a therapeutic target, disease gene, biomarker, or active participant in biochemical pathways. The functional lactate dehydrogenase enzyme is critical in metabolism but is encoded by other active genes (LDHB, etc.), not by this pseudogene[1][4]. Key points: - LDHBP1 is a non-functional, non-coding gene. - It is not considered a drug target. - It should not be confused with the functional lactate dehydrogenase B (LDHB) enzyme, which is protein-coding and has clear physiological and clinical roles[4][3][2].
