Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP14 (formerly known as Lactobacillus plantarum strain No. 14) is a specific probiotic bacterial strain recognized for its metabolic and immunomodulatory properties. As a member of the lactic acid bacteria group, it is found in various fermented foods and the human gut, where it serves as a beneficial biotherapeutic agent rather than a traditional molecular target. LP14 is primarily investigated for its ability to reduce adiposity, decrease serum cholesterol levels, and improve insulin sensitivity by modulating host gene expression and signaling pathways, such as those involving leptin and lipogenesis. Additionally, it has demonstrated clinical potential in managing seasonal allergic diseases by shifting the systemic immune response toward a Th1 profile and suppressing eosinophil counts.
