Lactobacillus helveticus is a Gram-positive, acid-tolerant, non-spore-forming lactic acid bacterium widely used in dairy fermentation and evaluated as a probiotic. It can colonize the gastrointestinal tract, where it exerts health-promoting functions such as modulating the gut microbiota, increasing production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, antagonizing enteric pathogens, and attenuating inflammation.
