Ladinin 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

The ladinin 1 pseudogene is a non-functional genomic DNA sequence resembling the protein-coding LAD1 gene. Unlike its parent gene, which encodes a cytoskeletal protein important for basement membrane stability and involved in cancer progression and autoimmune diseases[2][4], the pseudogene does not produce functional protein. Most processed pseudogenes, including this one, are considered genetic relics with no protein-coding capacity. Some pseudogenes in the human genome have been implicated in gene regulation by acting as decoys for microRNAs or generating non-coding RNAs with potential regulatory functions[3], but there is no evidence that the ladinin 1 pseudogene itself has such a role.

02

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally lack direct biological function; potential regulatory roles (e.g., microRNA decoys or non-coding RNA regulation) are described for some pseudogenes broadly, but there is no specific function attributed to "ladinin 1 pseudogene."[3]
03

Disease associations

Other (no disease involvement reported for this specific pseudogene; however, pseudogenes in general can have regulatory roles in cancer or other diseases via RNA-based mechanisms[3])
