Laminin alpha 5 is a crucial component of the basement membrane, a structural layer that supports tissues. It plays a significant role in cell adhesion, migration, and organization during embryonic development. LAMA5 interacts with integrins, α-dystroglycan, syndecan-4, and the Lutheran/basal cell adhesion molecule (Lu/B-CAM). It is expressed in various tissues such as the kidney, lung, skin, and mammary gland. Laminins containing alpha 5 have been implicated in regulating the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.
