Laminin subunit gamma-2 (LAMC2) is a protein encoded by the LAMC2 gene and is one of three subunits that form laminin 332 (formerly called laminin 5), a key component of anchoring filaments in basement membranes underlying epithelial tissues[1][3][4]. Laminin subunit gamma-2 is essential for cell adhesion, migration, and organization, especially in the skin, where it provides structural resilience and barrier function[3][4][5]. Mutations in LAMC2 cause forms of junctional epidermolysis bullosa, a severe hereditary blistering disorder[3][4]. Overexpression and aberrant localization of laminin gamma-2 have been implicated in tumor invasion and progression across various carcinomas, often localizing at the invasive tumor edge and serving as a prognostic biomarker in oncology[2][7]. Laminin gamma-2 also participates in wound healing, corneal integrity, and dental enamel development[3]. No approved drugs directly target LAMC2, but its key roles in cancer invasion and skin disease highlight its therapeutic and diagnostic relevance[2][7].
