Lanthionine Synthetase C-like Protein Family (LanCL)

Target
LanCL
Molecular classification
Enzyme (structurally related to lanthionine cyclases), Signaling protein, Glutathione-binding protein
01

Overview

The lanthionine synthetase C-like (LanCL) protein family in eukaryotes is homologous to the prokaryotic LanC enzymes, which are involved in lantibiotic biosynthesis. In humans, three main members have been identified: LanCL1, LanCL2, and LanCL3. While their precise biochemical functions remain incompletely understood, these proteins are increasingly recognized for their roles in cellular signaling and regulation, particularly in Akt/mTOR pathways and antioxidant responses. Abscisic acid (ABA) has been identified as a ligand for LANCL2, opening potential therapeutic avenues.
