LARGE antisense RNA 1 (LARGE-AS1)

Target
LARGE-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Natural antisense transcript, Other
01

Overview

LARGE antisense RNA 1 (LARGE-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the LARGE gene locus. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it cannot be translated into protein and instead functions predominantly by regulating the expression of its corresponding sense gene or nearby loci. Mechanisms may involve RNA-RNA complementarity, modulation of transcriptional activity, or interaction with chromatin remodeling complexes. While antisense RNAs broadly have roles in gene regulation, chromatin remodeling, and are sometimes implicated in disease processes such as cancer, there is currently no disease association or therapeutic application directly attributed to LARGE-AS1. This molecule is part of the rapidly expanding set of lncRNAs with potential as future therapeutic targets, research tools, or biomarkers, but detailed functional characterization is lacking in published literature[1][5].

02

Mechanism of action

None identified specifically for this molecule. In general, antisense RNA can regulate gene expression via sequence-dependent interaction (RNA-RNA, RNA-DNA, RNA-protein), transcriptional interference, or recruitment of chromatin modifiers

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (cis and/or trans mechanisms)Epigenetic modulation (chromatin remodeling, promoter/enhancer activity)Possible involvement in development, cell signaling, and stress responses (functions generalizable to antisense RNAs; specific data for LARGE-AS1 remains unavailable)
04

Disease associations

Other (No current evidence specifically supporting a role in cancer, inflammation, neurodegeneration, etc. for LARGE-AS1. Many antisense lncRNAs function in cancer, but no direct reports for LARGE-AS1 specifically.)
05

Safety considerations

None specifically described. The safety challenges of therapeutic targeting of lncRNAs can include off-target effects and modulation of epigenetic states, but no unique safety profile is documented for LARGE-AS1
