Overview

Large ribosomal subunit protein eL19 (RPL19) is a cytosolic protein encoded by the RPL19 gene, forming part of the eukaryotic large (60S) ribosomal subunit and facilitating protein synthesis[2][3][5]. Besides its canonical structural role, RPL19 demonstrates extra-ribosomal functions relevant to cell cycle regulation, apoptosis under stress, and cancer biology[1]. Overexpression of RPL19 is observed in several malignancies, where it is linked to poorer prognosis, and its silencing reverts malignant phenotypes in vitro and in xenograft models[1]. Additionally, RPL19-derived peptides can act as tumor-associated antigens, eliciting cytotoxic T cell responses against cancer cells[1]. Thus, RPL19 is both a biomarker and a candidate therapeutic target in oncology.
